About

duckseal truly is the story of one duck and one seal who one day decided to turn their joint passion for design into a brand under which they would start releasing garments and accessories:

The Duck:
(Luca)

and

The Seal:
(Tudor)

After Luca finished Fashion Design in the Netherlands, and Tudor studies Computer Science in the United States, they returned to their home country of Romania in 2022.

Here they decided to start a luxury streetwear brand (menswear focused for the time being) that builds on classic garment archetypes, contrasting the utility and functionality usually found in outerwear with a delicate, more refined design vision borrowed from tailoring techniques.

This decision was made based on what they loved to wear and see in their day-to-day lives.

After that also came the focus on sustainability and the mission for quality which had a heavy impact on their production process for the garments.

Design Process

All of the designs you see from us start out as a figure drawing on a page, as you probably imagined already.

After we find a closely related pattern, it goes through as many modifications and prototypes as necessary in our atelier, until the right fit that resembles what was imagined in the drawings emerges from all of the attempts.

When the pattern is finalized, we move to cutting it from the actual materials that will make up the garment, and together with the technical instructions it goes to one of the seasoned seamstresses we work with from all over the city in order to ensure the necessary level of quality for a luxury brand.

We then pick up the garment and run the quality checks. If they don’t pass, we just run the process back to where it all went wrong, until it satisfies our standards for how a modern, well-crafted garment should look and feel.

The photo and video shoots happen and then they reach your online feed, newsletter, or local store depending on which way is more convenient for you to stay in contact with us :)

Manufacturing Process

After you hit that checkout button and we capture your order, either Luca or Tudor, depending on who sees it first, calls the other one up and gets excited over the phone for a new person to be wearing a duckseal garment.

Because all of our products are made-to-order, we then check if we have the materials in stock, and go buy what’s necessary. They are hand-cut in our atelier and, packed with the technical drawing and accessories, hit one of the seasoned seamstresses we mentioned above.

After picking them up, we run a quality check, and then pack the fresh garment carefully before going to the post office, physical store, or delivering it directly to you.

Because of our made-to-order process and quality checks it will be around 2-3 weeks before the ordered garments reach you, a time window which we find full of excitement for both us and you, the customer.

If it’s the case that we received an order for a custom size, the manufacturing process takes a little longer, but in that situation the customer will be in direct contact with Tudor from the moment te order was received, so any details will be discussed as needed.

Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability came from both our principles as people growing up in a world where the immense waste of the fashion industry is widely known, and the need to have a production line that makes sense for a business of our size.

It is very expensive for a brand to do a 25, 50, or 100 unit run of a product, so the made-to-order production that we chose means that we never make garments that will just gather dust in a storage room or pollute the planet from a landfill. We only make clothes that will be inside the homes of people, while it also being the smarter financial choice for us.

The materials used for our designs are sourced from fabric roll ends that other fashion companies have thrown out, or decided to get rid of. One man’s trash really can be another man’s come up :D and if you’re one of our customers we can assure you it’ll be one of the most prized possessions in your wardrobe.

Also, if you think a product bought from us has any defects, or anything that will hinder you from wearing it until it falls apart, please get back in contact with us to mediate this and work together for a planet with less textile waste!

To Be Continued...

While this ends the story that we’ll tell on this page of the website, it will continue on the main page with every new release of ours.

We encourage you to go check it out and for the time being the two animals will continue creating clothes in their atelier every day and finding new ways to have their creations be worn by as many people as possible...

... until everybody is either a duck or a seal.
